How to apply

Applications for Harris Scholarships have now closed.

Parents/Guardians/Carers will be informed in writing of the outcome of their child's assessment/interview.

Application process:

  • Eligibility: Students are only eligible to apply for a scholarship if they have a confirmed offer of a place at a Harris Academy for entry into Year 7 in September 2025. Students can only apply for a scholarship that is on offer at their academy.
  • Register your interest in the scholarship of your choice by completing the online form (one application per student).
  • Interviews will be held in the Summer/Autumn of 2025 for pupils who have already accepted a place at a Harris Secondary Academy
  • Interviews and assessment tasks will be organised by the Harris Federation consultant team.
  • Parents/Guardians/Carers are invited to support their application with an open reference on their child's interest or aptitude.
  • Parents/Guardians/Carers are invited to provide a supporting statement to show how they believe their child could benefit from the specific Scholarship programme.
  • Parents/Guardians/Carers will be informed in writing of the outcome of their child's assessment/interview.

Important Admissions information:

The Scholarship Assessment will NOT be used for admissions purposes. Prospective students are only eligible to apply for a scholarship IF and ONLY WHEN they have received a formal offer of a place at a Harris Federation Secondary Academy after 1st of March in the Year of entry to Year 7.

Computer Science Scholarship Programme

Are you ready to part of the next generation of tech innovators?

Do you have an enthusiasm and aptitude for coding or technology? Are you ready to be a part of the next generation of tech innovators? Would you consider taking a Computing or IT course at GCSE, A-Level and degree at university?

If your answer is yes to the above, then you may be eligible to apply for the Harris Federation Computer Science scholarship programme for Y7 pupils at any participating Harris Federation Secondary Academy.

Applicants should exhibit a genuine interest in technology, programming or digital innovation, alongside an aptitude for problem-solving.

What we offer:

Students who are successful applicants to the scholarship programme will benefit from:

  • Online masterclasses: Students will receive an hour masterclass every half-term with one of the Harris Federation's Computer Science Consultants.
  • Enrichment & trips: Students will be supported in visiting exhibitions; tech industry shows and exciting panel talks.
  • Team coding challenge: Students will have the ability to test their coding skills and collaborate with their peers to solve exciting real-world problems!
  • National competitions: Scholars will have the opportunity to compete in national competitions such as Bebras, Cyberfirst girls and British Informatics Olympiad.
  • Physical computing: Students will explore the realm of physical computing, by learning how to design, build and code interactive systems.
  • Talks with graduates and professionals: Scholars will have the opportunity to hear from a range of professionals within the IT field, such as employees from Microsoft. There will be visits to universities that specialise in subjects related to computing, as well as game design or cyber security.

Design & Technology Scholarship Programme

Do you have an enthusiasm and aptitude for Design and Technology?

Do you wonder how things surrounding work? Are you creative and are keen to design and invent things that solve problems and fulfil a range needs? Would you consider taking Design and Technology at GCSE and Product Design at A-Level leading to a Degree in Product Design, Fashion Design, Textiles, Engineering, Architecture?

If your answer is yes to the above, then you may be eligible to apply for the Harris Federation Design and Technology scholarship programme for Y7 pupils at any participating Harris Federation Secondary Academy.

Students who are interested in design thinking, making and are inventive would be considered for a scholarship in Design and Technology.

What we offer: 

Students who are successful applicants to the scholarship programme will benefit from:

  • Additional tuition: Students will receive an extra hour masterclass every half-term with one of the Harris Federation's Design and Technology Consultants who have a wealth of industrial experience.
  • Enrichment & trips: Students will be supported in visiting exhibitions, industry shows and working with designers on projects or having the opportunity present projects to a panel of experts.
  • Harris Federation competitions: As there are several disciplines under the Design and Technology umbrella students will get the chance to specialise depending on the offering of their academy and will have access to the workshops to design and make products that can be entered into competitions.
  • National competitions: Scholars will have the opportunity to represent Harris at national competitions such as First Tech Challenge who support our academies in running robotic clubs and the Design Museum who run an annual competition.
  • Specialist workshops: Students will have the opportunity to attend specialist workshops at Store school. Workshops that are run at the Design and Victoria and Albert Museum.
  • University & careers access: Design and Technology Scholars will have the opportunity to visit end of year degree shows including Young Designers show at the Business Design Centre in London. There will be visits to universities that specialise in subjects related to design, as well as Engineering and Architecture.

What we offer:

  • Additional tuition: Students will receive an extra hour masterclass every term with one of the Harris Federation's top geography consultants.
  • Enrichment & residential trips: Students will be supported to prepare and apply for a range of residential trips, including abroad to locations such as Iceland, as well as taking part in trips within London.
  • Harris Federation competitions: Geography scholars will be supported to enter a range of in-house Harris Geography competitions such as young geographer of the year, the KS3 quiz, and the geography calendar competition.

Pupils with a strong interest in any era or aspect of history can apply.

What we offer:

Students who are successful applicants to the scholarship programme will benefit from:

  • Access to national and international trips: Students will have access to a range of additional trips both within England and abroad.
  • Competitions: Students will be able to take part in a range of competitions against other history scholars. These include essay writing competitions, debating and historical fiction writing. Students choosing to enter the National Great Debate competition will receive coaching from the History Consultant Team.
  • Work experience: For students in Year 10 and 12 we will support you in finding history specific work experience placements to help you gain access to top university places and careers.
  • Academic lectures: Scholars will be challenged academically by being given the chance to attend a range of academic lectures delivered by historians. These will be open to all age groups but will be particularly helpful in preparing A Level students for university.

Students with prior knowledge and interest in any language, ancient or modern, will be considered for the scholarship.

What we offer:

Students who are successful applicants to the scholarship programme will benefit from:

  • Online sessions: Students will attend a 60-minute online session every half-term with one of the Harris Federation's top language consultants.
  • Enrichment & residential trips: Students will be offered to attend and participate in a range of enrichment activities, as well as taking part in cultural trips within London and abroad.
  • Harris Federation competitions: Future linguist scholars will be supported to enter a range of in-house Harris languages competitions such as the Harris Languages Spelling Bee, Idioms Calendar Competition, LinguaChef cooking competition and MundoVision singing competition.
  • National competitions: Scholars will also have the chance to enter a wide range of national competitions such as the Stephen Spender Translation Prize, Chinese Bridge Speaking Competition, British Council 'Celebrate Speaking!' competition and Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators (dependent on language of study).
  • Penfriend partners: Students will be attributed native penfriends with whom to build meaningful connections and further develop their communication skills.

  • Caroline Wyatt: is a BBC defence correspondent, and speaks French, German and some Russian. “Speaking the language makes a huge difference to how people relate to you, and the experience that you have of that country (...) Languages are a huge gift to give any child, as they open a whole different window on the world.”
  • Paula Radcliffe: gained a first-class honours degree in French, German & Economics from Loughborough University. Radcliffe's language skills have come in very useful for when she has participated in international events.
  • Novak Djokovic: “We have a saying in our country: the more languages you know, more is your worth as a person.”

  • Half-termly online tutorials: Students will receive an hour online session every half-term with one of the Harris Federation's top music consultants.
  • Instrumental/vocal lessons: Students will be supported in their respective academies with a free 1-1 instrumental/vocal lesson each week.
  • Masterclasses supported by music colleges: Future musician scholars will have access to masterclasses delivered by our partners including Trinity Laban, National Youth Jazz Orchestra and The Army Music Service, among others.
  • Federation ensembles: Music scholars will be part of our central ensembles, playing and singing with other talented musicians across the Federation. The Harris Orchestra and Choir perform at major venues throughout the year.

The NextGen Science Scholarship will nurture and empower science scholars to excel in the sciences at every key stage. The scholarship programme will ignite a passion for scientific inquiry, provide ongoing access to resources and mentorship, and open doors to advanced educational and career opportunities. With the ultimate aim of going on to pursue a science-related course or vocation, the scholarship will cultivate the next generation of innovators, researchers, and leaders in science.

Seven pillars

NextGen Science Scholarship will cover a broad range of aspects so that students not only excel academically, but also develop important inter-personal, ethical, and critical-thinking skills. Seven pillars will underpin activities and initiatives across the programme, right from the start of KS3 to the end of KS5, with the whole student in mind.

  • Digital proficiency: Equipping scholars with digital skills, acumen, resources and equipment, e.g., devices (tablet/laptop) & future-thinking courses (using AI, Wolfram, Python).
  • Scientific literacy: Enhancing scholars' ability to read, write and speak scientifically, e.g., presentation/public speaking training, additional bespoke independent learning tasks.
  • Academic challenge: Providing advanced material and 1-1 support to develop expertise, confidence and resilience, e.g., targeted tuition, additional problem-solving/essay-based tasks, magazine/periodical subscriptions, online masterclasses
  • Active science: Participating in hands-on projects, competitions, trips and science-related experiences, e.g., F1 engineering competitions, Olympiads, tours of scientific facilities like the NSA and CERN.
  • Community & collaboration: Fostering a sense of community and developing collaboration and leadership skills among science scholars, e.g., pupil-pupil academic mentoring, social events and networks.
  • Ethics & innovation: Instilling a sense of ethical responsibility and an awareness of the societal impact and relevance of science, e.g., talks and events about DEI in science, global issues like mental health and global warming.
  • Future pathways: Preparing scholars for post-secondary study, vocation and careers, e.g., special access career days and work-experience, university open days and subject-specific UCAS preparation.
