Health & Social Care
What is the intention of the Health & Social Care Curriculum?
Our intent in Health and Social Care is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. We aim to develop compassionate, reflective learners who can support individuals who are vulnerable, unwell, or in need of care, while fostering key attributes such as empathy, resilience, and professionalism.
How will this be implemented?
We intend for students to gain a secure understanding of health, wellbeing, and care practices, alongside strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. As one of the fastest-growing sectors in the UK, students are prepared for progression into a wide range of meaningful careers, including nursing, social work, counselling, and education, enabling them to contribute positively to society.
National Curriculum Subject content
Our curriculum is designed to provide a balance of theoretical knowledge and applied learning. Students develop practical skills through real-world scenarios and vocational experiences, ensuring they can confidently apply their learning in real -world contexts , giving students hands-on experience in care, communication, and real-world projects.
At Key Stage 4, students study the OCR Cambridge National in Health and Social Care, building foundational knowledge and skills. At Key Stage 5, they can progress to the OCR AAQ qualification, allowing for deeper understanding and specialisation. This structured and coherent pathway ensures all learners can access a curriculum that supports their aspirations, builds long-term capacity for the sector and ensures the curriculum can be tailored to students’ strengths and aspirations
We also intend for students to develop a broad range of transferable skills, including communication, presentation, and behaviour management, which support success across the curriculum and beyond. Health and Social Care complements subjects such as Psychology, Sociology, Sport and Biology, providing students with a well-rounded and cohesive educational experience.
