Exam Board: AQA
Students will be engaged in the in depth study of media products in relation to the four areas of the theoretical framework:
- media language
- media representation
- media industries
- media audiences
Students are required to study media products from all of the following media forms:
- audio-visual forms (TV, film, radio, advertising and marketing, video games and music video)
- online forms (social and participatory media, video games, music video, newspapers, magazines, advertising and marketing)
- print forms (newspapers, magazines, advertising and marketing)
There are 2 exam papers and 1 coursework unit
Paper 1: Issues and Debates in the Media
A topic will be released in advance of the exam. There will be 4 short answer questions relating to the theme.
Paper 2: Analysis of Media Products
Candidates will be expected to answer with reference to the Close Study Products (CSPs) provided by the board. There will be a combination of short and long answer questions.
Non-exam assessment: Creating a Media Product
Students will produce a statement of intent, together with cross-media products made for an intended audience.
Many of our students have gone on to work in the media, be it in advertising, journalism, television or film. Some have continued on to complete degree courses at Ravensbourne College in London where a variety of courses in Advertising and Digital Film-making are offered.
