‘Write Your Own Historical Fiction Competition 2020’
‘Historical fiction’ simply means stories set in the past. Like any story, good historical fiction has to have an exciting plot and interesting characters. It also has to be convincing about the particular time in which the story is set – there’s no good putting space ships in a story about William the Conqueror!
Last term, the HAO History Department challenged students in Years 7, 8 and 9 to write their own piece of historical fiction. We had a number of fantastic entries and, as a department we struggled to choose between them. We judged the entries based on the following criteria: historical accuracy, historical vocabulary, a riveting read, interesting characters and creative perspective.
Well done to everyone who took part in this competition and a special congratulations to our winning entries detailed below. All entries received a certificate in the post with our winners also receiving a special prize.
