Above national average for the prestigious EBacc

Harris Academy Orpington is celebrating an excellent set of results, with a significant increase in the proportion of students passing English and maths.

78% of students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in English this year and 67% did so in maths. Students getting a Grade 4 or more in both maths and English has risen by five percentage points since last year to 61% this year.

28% of the year group achieved the prestigious and challenging EBacc qualification which means they successfully passed in Maths, English, Science, a Modern Foreign Language and a Humanities subject.  This is higher than the most recent national average (24%) and a significant achievement for the academy.

We are delighted to have achieved 17 of the ‘super’ Grade 9s, which are equivalent to getting an A**. A fifth of drama students achieved a Grade 9. 

There were also noticeable high performances in Art and Design, Sport and BTEC Engineering.

• Leah Andrews: Grade 9 in Geography, Grade 8s in Art, Science, English Language and Maths
• Becca Bagge: Grade 9 in Georgraphy, Grade 8s in Science, English Literature and Maths
• Amie George: Grade 9 in Geography and an astounding 7 Grade 8s (A* equivalent) including Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, French, Maths, Physics and Psychology
• Sarah Rutter: Grade 9 in Drama, Grade 8s in English Language, English Literature and Spanish
• Jona Thaipaiampil: Grade 9s in Science and Geography and Grade 8s in Sociology, Maths and English Literature
• Jennifer Wells: Grade 9 in Maths, Grade 8s Science and Geography

David Astin, Executive Principal of the Academy, said:
